Foods Doctors Won’t Eat and Why
Gout:
Foods high in 2purines can precipitate a gout attack.
These foods include red meat, organ meats such as liver, seafood/shellfish, whiskey and beer. Anyone with a prior gout attack or a history of hyperuricemia (the underlying condition for gout) should consider limiting these foods.
Metabolic Syndrome (hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity, dyslipidemia):
Foods with a high glycemic index (high fructose corn syrup, white bread, white rice, some breakfast cereals, etc.) are associated with increased risk of obesity, heart disease and diabetes mellitus.
High sodium foods such as canned soup, pickles, fast food and some prepackaged meals can aggravate hypertension. Alcohol has also been shown to elevate blood pressure.
Saturated and trans (partially hydrogenated) fats can aggravate dyslipidemia or high cholesterol. These include fried foods, pastries, meats, processed foods, eggs, etc.
Foot Odor:
Sulfites found in some foods can break down to trimethylamine, potentially causing foot odor. These foods include red meat, seafood, egg yolks, onions, asparagus, etc.
